Work With Us

Investing in agriculture and food security is essential to fighting hunger, lifting millions out of poverty, and improving the health and nutrition outcomes of women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

Who We Are

We're a funding mechanism that channels funds to stakeholders in different ways, adapted to their need: to countries through their governments; to private sector enterprises and agribusiness through innovative financing packages; and to farmer organizations through creative pilot projects.

We ensure that funding is used effectively, efficiently, and sustainably by targeting projects with the greatest potential for impact. Through the Public Sector Window, we provide funds to projects that are developed and driven by recipient countries, and that are well aligned with country plans. Through the Private Sector Window, we provide financing packages for agribusiness.  In 2016, we launched a new pilot Missing Middle Initiative (MMI) aimed at reaching smallholder farmers more directly.

GAFSP is a Financial Intermediary Fund, and the Coordination Unit is housed at the World Bank. We work in partnership with our Supervising Entities: African Development Bank (AfDB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Bank, and World Food Programme (WFP). The Private Sector Window is managed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Public Sector Window

The Public Sector Window provides grants to low-income country governments in support of national agricultural and food security investment plans developed in participation with their own farmers, agribusinesses, technical experts, and civil society organizations. The Public Sector Window portfolio supports 48 projects in 31 countries totaling $1.2 billion.

Private Sector Window

The GAFSP Private Sector Window uses blended finance solutions and concessional funding to support projects designed to improve the livelihood of smallholder farmers living in the world’s poorest countries. Investing across the entire food supply chain, from farm inputs to logistics and storage, to processing and financing, the Private Sector Window specializes in early-stage agribusiness projects with a high potential for development impact.

Civil Society Organizations

Recognizing the unique role of civil society in development, we ensure that our projects have the highest impact through extensive collaboration with CSOs on three levels: giving CSOs a seat at the governance table, channeling global partner networks, and encouraging participation in GAFSP-financed projects.
