The Government of Spain recently pledged EUR 10 million for the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), thereby renewing its commitment of support towards the program.
In a statement during Global Citizen’s Global Goal: Unite for our Future event on June 27, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said, “Joining forces is the only way to end this [COVID-19] pandemic, leaving no one behind. It’s time for a multilateral response. It’s time to take action… [Spain] has shown its financial commitment, and today, once again, I want to make an open call for everybody to join the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future campaign.”
Spain has previously contributed EUR 70 million (equiv. US$94.2 million) to GAFSP to support public sector investments, and the new commitment signals crucial support from the international donor community for the food and nutrition security agenda.
