Scaling Resilient Irish Potato Value Chains for Productivity, Income Growth, and Nutrition Impact (SPRING-IN)

About the Project

The project aims to improve the productivity, climate resilience, and market access of 52,636 smallholder Irish potato farmers across 10 districts in Rwanda. It seeks to increase potato yields, improve dietary diversity, and strengthen the participation of women and youth in the value chain.

The project will improve access to certified seed varieties and promote sustainable production practices through farmer field schools and demonstration plots, including integrated pest and soil fertility management. It will reduce post-harvest losses through improved storage, training, and value addition, while enhancing market access through bulk marketing, contract farming, and digital platforms. The project will also support youth-led enterprises in potato production, storage, and processing, and promote nutrient-rich potato varieties and home gardens to improve household nutrition.
