What We Do

The GAFSP model is designed to be catalytic, impact-focused, and demand-led. It pools donor resources and leverages the capacities of leading Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), Development Finance Institutions (DFIs),  and UN Agencies to coordinate and support strategic investments made by key actors in the agrifood system:

  • Countries — by providing grant financing to governments to deliver on national agriculture and food strategies, including smallholder-oriented investments in rural infrastructure, technologies, inputs, and extension services.
  • Producer Organizations — by channeling direct support to smallholder farmer organizations, helping to build capacity, and improving market access and participation by vulnerable groups.
  • Agribusinesses & Financial Intermediaries — by offering blended concessional finance through the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other multilateral Development Finance Institutions to implement financial innovations that unlock private investment in underserved agricultural entrepreneurs and value chains.

Each investment proposal presented to GAFSP undergoes an independent review. With every dollar of donor contribution, GAFSP mobilizes co-financing
