Harvesting Inclusion in Honduras: Improving Food Security & Livelihoods for Persons with Disabilities

Food and water insecurity are a challenge in the Dry Corridor region of Honduras, with a few months or weeks of heavy rain followed by long stretches of drought. The GAFSP-funded Corredor Seco Food Security Project (PROSASUR) aims to enhance the food and nutrition security of 16,000 vulnerable households in 25 municipalities of the Dry Corridor, where rural poverty is concentrated. PROSASUR increases the availability of quality food and the incomes of poor rural people in order to improve nutrition and reduce child stunting. The project has made significant progress on social inclusion, and for the first time in the country, has developed an approach to ensure disability inclusion. PROSASUR provides customized support to 95 households with persons with disabilities to ensure they are empowered in their work in food and agricultural production.
