Wool and Mohair Transformation Project (WAMTP)

About the Project

The project aims to strengthen Lesotho’s wool and mohair sector by improving fiber quality, market access, and the institutional capacity of the Lesotho National Wool and Mohair Growers Association (LNWMGA). It will directly benefit 15,000 producers, including 50% women and 30% youth.

The project will introduce a certification system for 60 shearing sheds, supported by farmer training and partner institutions. It will also invest in improved breeding and feed systems, including breeder stock, 15 small-scale feed production units, fodder crop development, and 60 community animal health workers. In addition, it will strengthen LNWMGA’s capacity to deliver services, engage in premium value chains, and improve digital membership systems and knowledge management.
